Does Blotting Pizza Work?
Some pizza purists can get offended when they watch the person next to them take a napkin and blot their pizza. Trying to take off the top layer of oil on a delicious pizza can seem like an extra step just to get to your pizza. But people swear that it does take some calories off your slice.
Does it really work? And if it does how many calories are we talking about?
There’s no study or research into how many calories the top layer of oil produces, shocking I know. But the closest thing we have is from the Food Network series Food Detectives. There is an entire episode dedicated to this pizza practice. After researching they found that yes, the blotting method works, and it takes off around 35 calories.
Roshini Ray M.D., a CNN doctor, agrees with the detectives’ research as he said that, “You are probably cutting 20 to 50 calories apiece – not a whole lot, but I guess if you have a couple of slices, it adds up.” There are other ways to reduce the number of calories to your pizza like topping selection (more veggies), order a salad and eat that before your pizza and not having cheese on your pizza. Now blotting your pizza doesn’t seem so scandalous anymore.
